Roberta Brandes Gratz

Roberta Brandes Gratz Roberta Brandes Gratz, an award-winning journalist and urban critic, is author of three books that reflect her passion.  The first two were The Living City: Thinking Small in a Big Way, and Cities Back from the Edge: New Life for Downtown. The third — The Battle For Gotham: New York In the Shadow of Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs, published in 2010, reflects her close friendship with the late and legendary Jane Jacobs, opposing grandiose (and often subsidy-devouring) big urban developments in favor of “urban husbandry” — simpler, kinder, and potentially far more effective steps to make cities and neighborhoods work for people.Gratz is a journalist by trade — former award-winning reporter for the New York Post — and in recent years an international lecturer on urban development issues
