Newberg’s writing has appeared in Urban Land magazine, New Urban News, The Next American City, Planning magazine and the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He has contributed case studies and chapters to several ULI books and publications, as well as publishing articles covering urban planning and development topics on five continents.

Newberg worked as a real estate consultant in Minneapolis for several years before merging his consulting and writing in to the one business, Joe Urban, Inc., since 2006. There, he provides market analysis and advisory services for a variety of public and private clients, and continues to write for various publications.

In recent years, he has presented his work for clients and industry groups, and delivered guest lectures at local universities. In 2004 he started the Urban Land Institute’s Young Leaders Group in Minnesota. He also is vice president of his neighborhood group in Minneapolis, utilizing his knowledge of global urban issues to local politics.
