Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program

Through a Kresge Foundation grant, Citiscope — a non-profit sister organization to Citistates — is tracking the Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program. Building on the precedent of the Ford Foundation’s fellows program for post-Katrina New Orleans, Kresge’s Detroit fellows program selected 29 fellows from more than 600 applicants. Some already lived in the region; most moved there for the experience. They work for 24 different employers — a mixture of employers, ranging from the mayor’s office to the Detroit Institute of Arts to the Eastern Market to a major energy provider. Citiscope’s role is to raise the visibility of this program through communicating what the fellows are doing and through helping the fellows make maximum use of the social media to spread the word about the potential for talented, educated young people in Detroit.

Curtis Johnson and Jay Walljasper are taking the lead on this, supported by Griff Wigley, the long-time webmaster and Internet guru for the Citistates Group.
